"BLISS" (2024) is a self-portrait of the artist constructed out of pony beads—a material most often used by children for various craft projects.

Meant to evoke the memory of goosebumps, “BLISS” is a visual and tactile ode to the sensation of “thermal thrill” or “temperature thrill,” which is a full-body shiver that sometimes occurs when transitioning suddenly from a cold, air-conditioned environment to a hot, sunlit one.

Metaphorically, “Bliss” depicts the exhilarating warmth and blinding illumination of stepping out into sunlight after a long period of cold or darkness. It centers the joy and illumination of self-discovery while acknowledging the blinding, initial discomfort of “stepping out into the light.”

“Bliss” was selected for the West Valley Arts Council’s 2024 show Introspection. It was also featured in the Sedona Arts Center’s annual Big Gay Art Show which opened June 2025.
